Experience Management, Powered by the Intelligent Enterprise

Three senior SAP executives – Sindhu, Timo and Peggy – use their unique vantage points to address their view of the Intelligent Enterprise. For decades, SAP has been the leader in business applications that generate and leverage operational data — hard numbers like costs, accounting, and sales — to inform their business decisions. But while operational data gives you an idea of what has happened, it only provides limited insights into why it happened. This opening keynote will cover:

• How experience management is the process of monitoring every interaction with a company in order to discover opportunities for improvement
• Optimizing every experience that matters - customer experiences, employee experiences, innovation experiences, even ERP upgrade experiences
• Unpack how the best way for organisations to transform themselves into intelligent enterprise is by combining machine and human intelligence across all business functions
• Explore the notion of seamless integration across systems, applications and processes and how together this enables an Intelligent Enterprise.
• How ANZ customers can get started in delivering better employee experiences, customer experiences, brand experiences and better products in your market

Implementing S/4HANA Public Cloud – Learnings from McGrathNicol

Gartner research suggests that up to 75% of ERP implementations fail, and predicts that up to 90% of cloud ERP implementations will meet the same fate as they result in higher costs, greater complexity and failed integrations.

McGrathNicol was one of the first Australian businesses to implement S/4HANA public cloud, SAP’s true SaaS ERP model. Although the journey wasn’t perfect, and there’s further work to do, early days suggest the implementation has successfully delivered on our core objectives.

1. Why they chose the public cloud
2. Why they chose SAP

How to Begin a Security Transformation for Your SAP S/4HANA Project

How to Begin a Security Transformation for Your SAP S/4HANA Project

Roadmaps are documented, infrastructure installed, and software configuration begins. Management has approved a business case but rarely are security or controls included in these discussions. Where do you begin? With many customers the security design was developed 15 to 20 years ago prior to web enabled applications, HANA architecture and a new world of risks. When you implemented were you following best practices before information protection and separation of duties was a requirement?

Greg will dive into how to begin a security transformation for your SAP S/4HANA project. Some of the key factors will be the overall project scope. How have you managed risks prior to this project? Security is working today, but how much is really used? Do you address risk for business users and system users equally? Security needs to be an integrated requirement for each of the functional areas being delivered.

Aurizon was able to achieve full access risk compliance after a one and a half year journey to close out 1.7 million access risk violations, following the implementation of GRC. An extensive review and analysis process was performed, reducing that number to around 40.

To achieve this, senior management, the SAP security team, finance representatives, and security stewards were engaged throughout the process to understand the steps needed to be taken, interpret the data and participate in formulating a remediation plan that aligned with SAP Best Practice. Following the achievement of these results, the next phase for Aurizon is to improve and build on the governance framework and work towards controls self-assessment.

Having been part of multiple global SAP implementations and with over 15 years leading finance teams, Frank will show you the starting blocks for how to embark, motivate, and engage your finance team into the journey of digital finance transformation for a faster and an on-time go-live with SAP S/4 HANA.

Social Architectures: Relevance of Connected Business

Social Architectures: Relevance of Connected Business

Real-time technology gives us the potential to connect everything with everything else. In the automotive industry, it is visible on the shop floor, production, customer experience, and certainly in the wider space of “autonomous.”

When we speak about social architectures, we are discussing the combination of processes, data, and values related to a consumer.

Doing these things requires different kinds of end-to-end processes, different ways of relating to consumers, different ways of acting towards competitors, along with knowing that potential consumers in the Internet of Things (IoT) world are also visible to all other participants in the market. Capabilities such as artificial intelligence (A) or blockchain, quantum computing, and open borders in IoT will make different business models and kinds of collaboration possible.

With moving from products to service, we have even more potential if we keep in mind that a connected world will use intelligent sensors and intelligent infrastructure. Then we can anticipate intelligence networks.

Viewing this from an overall perspective, the speaker will give also insights on an automotive SAP S/4HANA greenfield journey.

Key Business Benefits:

• End-to-end overview on digital mega trends and challenges in business
• Link to potential business cases and impact on SAP landscapes
• Usecase on SAP greenfield

Who Are You and How the H#ll Did You Get Here?

Who Are You and How the H#ll Did You Get Here?

CITIC Pacific Mining operates an isolated, highly diverse Mine Site that goes beyond the traditional Mining Operations, as it incorporates a Port, Power Station, Desalination, 6x line Processing and Dewatering Plant. This means they use many contingent workers not only for operations but for minor and major maintenance shutdowns (~1000 workers mobilised for a 10-day major site shutdown).

This poses as a massive challenge for our leaders to manage/coordinate such a large number of direct and contingent workers from a number of different contracting companies to not only effectively complete the schedule shutdown maintenance tasks but to most importantly ensure that all the contingent workers not only have valid Australian Work Rights, but are correctly inducted for their work area and trained to do the work that is required of them.

The SinoONE project challenge was to “Give access to the Right Information, to the Right People, at the Right Time” which meant giving the people in our business access to all the information that they required for their direct employees and contingent workers to ensure that they are able to assign work with full confidence that they are competent and qualified to safely complete the tasks assigned.

Seeing the Light in Cloud Security

With SAAS and other cloud applications there is confusion and fear of the unknown. Existing security architects may have a deep understanding of on-premise SAP applications, but due to lack of documentation and training cloud security is a mystery. In this session we will discuss the architecture and security design of Ariba, IBP, Hybris Marketing, and other applications supported with the Identity Authentication Service for SAP Cloud Platform. We will compare the new cloud security designs with legacy ECC. Discuss using an alternative Identity Provider and other best practices.

Successful Integration – Put the Core of Your Business in the Hands of Your Users

Powerco is NZ’s second largest electricity and gas distribution business. Getting accurate information on the location and condition of assets to and from the field is key to keeping the lights on and gas flowing. Despite spending millions on maintaining asset information in the company’s geographic information system (GIS), the data was not widely used or trusted.

In 2019 Powerco implemented the first phase of its ERP and Integration strategies. This introduced a new business foundation based on S/4 HANA and stitched it into the existing application fabric redefining core business processes and data flows using a hybrid integration approach. By “getting good at” integration, alongside new mobility tools, they have put location and asset information in the hands of every employee and contractor, improving safety and efficiency. Powerco continue to invest in their integration capability to extract more value from their ERP investment and also to enable new solutions and partnerships.

Driving Adoption, Acceptance and Productivity in the World of System Transformation

In the coming years SAP customers are going to need to implement SAP S/4HANA. This can be seen as a systems change but even more so, it’s a Mindshift change.

This new solution may cause disruptions, constraints and be a new way of doing things which will inevitably cause negative sentiment and lower employee morale. As leaders in our businesses, it’s our job to educate and inspire the workforce to lead a successful implementation. This can be solved though a simple reorientation of the status quo and challenging why ‘that was the normal’ to begin with.

Matthew will take you through how he led the change management of a global role out and won over the hearts and mind of Finance and beyond through an emphasis on training and communication. Whether you’re from IT, Finance or Operations, the principles are the same. Achieving the right change management practices can be the difference between success and fail

How to Complete Account Reconciliations on Day 1

From manual excel reconciliations to an automatic cloud-based solution. Visy have brought transparency and control back to the reconciliation process over a 6-year journey. Using Blackline as a cloud-based solution, Visy now has uniformity and direction for account reconciliations across the business.

The user led software requires minimal I.T. involvement and can be managed directly by the finance function. Manual loads at head office were developed to push the SAP open line items directly into Blackline each month to improve the reconciliation process. This allowed greater focus by users on areas of risk and more time for analysis. Using the SAP connector technology, these manual loads were automated allowing users to meet new policy and deadline requirements.

This means any line item management in SAP can now be pushed directly to Blackline in a timely fashion. This allows users to complete reconciliations in time for our financial close.

Security Architecture in the 21st Century

With many classic projects the security solutions were planned with limited resources and delivered just in time for go-live. As companies are using SAP S/4HANA to justify their digital transformation it is important for security to align with the project from day 1.

Today there are threats that never existed when you were supporting an on-premise SAP environment inside your corporate firewall. What do you need to do as you prepare new security solutions? Exploring your options as you finalize your design and build your solution. Performing proper end to end testing so there are limited or no surprises in production. And deploying your solution while managing risks.

Get Prepared for Successful Digital Transformation and Significant Organisational Change

Research consistently indicates that between 50% and 80% of ERP implementations, organisational re-engineering (BPR) and change efforts fail to deliver promised benefits.

• Why does this consistently continue to happen?
• What are the major issues leading to failure?
• What are the key factors that truly make a difference toward success?

While we must get the “technical” installation issues correct when implementing an ERP system, this is not a sufficient condition to ensure a successful implementation. Renowned Transformational Change expert, James Carlopio, will distinguish implementation from installation and will help you identify the required structural and cultural changes you’ll need to make in your organisation's social systems and within individuals, in order to achieve digital transformation.

James has worked on projects for Rio Tinto, IBM, Australian Federal Police, the ABC, Telstra, Optus, SAP, AMP, NRMA, CBA, Australian Defense Industries and General Motors in the areas of organisational change, strategy design and implementation, innovation and new technology, applying design principles, personal change and influence, organisational and management development, and more recently on cultural cyber security. His education has focused on psychology with a B.A. (Springfield, MA.), an M.A. (University of Manitoba, Canada) and a Ph. D. in Applied and Organisational Psychology (Old Dominion, Virginia).

Planning Your Security & GRC Change Strategy for SAP S/4HANA

If your organisation is making the move to SAP S/4HANA, it will be making a sizable investment to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible.

In SAP’s last major upgrade cycle, customers made the move to SAP ECC. But many were hit later with the very significant and often needless costs of remediation, because security and compliance were not a focus from the start.

Despite the inherent simplicity of SAP S/4HANA, the transformation process will be anything but and the costs of remediation potentially even greater this time around.

This workshop is designed for SAP practitioners involved in the implementation of, or migration to SAP S/4HANA, and want to ensure all bases are covered when it comes to security, risk and compliance.

It will provide guidance for all transformation scenarios – including greenfield, brownfield, cloud and hybrid - while exploring all the key security considerations of each approach.

During the session we will cover:
- The key security and compliance differences between SAP ECC and SAP S/4HANA
- Architectural considerations that will impact SAP Security
- How to avoid the common pitfalls
- Implementation and migration best practices

Xinja Integration and Security with SAP and AWS

Xinja is a 100% digital, cloud-based neobank, built using SAP's new C4/B Core Banking platform deployed to SAP's private cloud and Xinja's own micro-services architecture built on AWS. Building a safe, secure bank in the cloud is a challenge, and subject to strong regulation by APRA and string information security standards under CPS-234.

Xinja achieved the necessary capabilities and maturity through an extensive assurance program that encompassed AWS and all their suppliers including SAP. They believe that they could not have achieved this as a startup enterprise without the awesome security capabilities of AWS and the maturity and strength of SAP.

Xinja builds all of the integration between the many platforms making up their landscape, using a post-SOA microservices architecture built on Kubernetes, Kafka and DynamoDB fully deployed using advanced automation capabilities to AWS. SAP integrates via event-based restful web service API's that fit well into the overall event streaming architecture. SAP's API's are one of the most important aspects of the modernisation of the SAP banking platform.

Formula for Change – Let Your Finance People be the Best They Can Be

It’s important for companies to provide opportunities for their people to thrive and contribute. Accountants possess vast skills that form a vital strategic resource for any organisation. Used at its best, technology can unleash those skills by removing the old barriers of manual grunt work and freeing up time to do other-and better-things.

We need to bear in mind that there’s a big difference between theoretical change and change in the real world. All of that said, we found some consistencies in behavioral characteristics and how they relate to change in the working environment and we want to share the formula with you. What we can do is create the best possible combinations of human skills and characteristics and then let our people do the best work they can.

Centralise, Standardise and Automate Finance Activities Using the Best Tech in the Market

When Catherine was appointed to lead the General Accounting function at Post, her initial thought was “How do I transform the month end process using the best technology in the market to deliver a saving of $1M?” Using Lean Six Sigma, the problem statement for her transformation project would be:

-800 balance sheet accounts were performed by 5 different teams across 5 different locations
-30% of manual journal submitted to General Accounting team for uploading to SAP often had errors and required correction.

It was critical to centralise the like activities in the same area and restructure the team. This would provide immediate efficiency by reducing the number of managers across various locations. Next step was to standardise the process so they could automate. After thorough research, it was decided to use Blackline for reconciliation process and RPA (Robotics Process Automation) for uploading and validating manual journals.

Last Mile Reporting: Lessons Learned to Help Close the Reporting Gap

Modern analytics tools have changed the way *some* users interact with their data and even revolutionized their day to day tasks. Why only some? Because there's always some who don't 'buy-in' to what IT is selling. But by making the last mile of reporting as smooth as possible, the road less travelled (for these users) becomes much more appealing. A healthy mix of tools and resources should do the trick for these users, but only if you balance them properly. The goal of this session will be to give some real-life examples of finding that balance. We'll talk about how it's not just the tool that makes the job easier; its giving users a variety of resources to balance that shiny new modern BI tool.

Leveraging One Core SAP Platform

After defining their HCM strategy, Mobile Mini had two options for their HR Technology strategy; best in breed or leveraging one core platform. After weighing the pros and cons of each they chose to leverage one core SAP platform. At the time things like the employee experience, one source of truth for data, standardization of process and shared services were primary drivers of the decision.

Over the past three years they’ve been able to support their HCM strategy with one core SAP platform to achieve things like supporting the growth of the organisation by becoming more agile, shift what they value by providing pay transparency, continuous feedback and career pathing, develop a ‘workplace for me’ by introducing health and wellness initiatives to meet employees where they are at, and make data driven decisions by having a holistic view of our employees.

Refining Finance Processes in the Pursuit of SAP S4/HANA Transformation

The evolution of finance in Healius, one of Australia’s leading healthcare companies, has left a highly complex SAP general ledger, and often conflicting system enhancements and rules needed to support.

In getting ready for SAP S4/HANA, it became evident that process and technology needed to walk together to create a sustainable solution. Initially, they addressed their reporting and integration processes through redesign of the chart of accounts in conjunction with the proposed implementation of New GL including additional segmentations to support the process gaps.

Amanda will cover why the need to relook at business processes are imperative before even assessing the transformation to SAP S/4HANA. She will take you through how they began the journey to identify areas of improvement and the benefits received from redefining the way they do finance.

Discover the Integration DNA of the Intelligent Suite from SAP

Come listen to SAP’s Integration Thought Leader and Head of SAP Labs India, Sindhu Gangadharan as she explains how SAP aims to deliver an overall experience across the enterprise for the intelligent suite that is greater than the sum of its parts. Accordingly, SAP offers technologies for integrating applications on all levels, such as user experience, data, processes, and more. Along the journey from on premise–centric application landscapes toward hybrid and cloud environments, customers need to revisit their integration solution strategy. Modern enterprises require a hybrid integration platform supporting cloud, hybrid, and on-premise integration use cases. Furthermore, new concepts are applied for enabling true out-of-the box integration and openness to integrate with non-SAP applications.

Building a Culture of Security

Building a Culture of Security

When thinking seriously about cyber security, we have to admit that technology, systems and our “hard” controls are doing their jobs. Only 3%-5% of reported breaches are ever attributed to hardware, software and/or systems failures. Hence, our biggest risks are always people! And if 95% of breaches are attributed to people and culture, how come most senior managers are still not taking cyber security culture and the behavioural side of security seriously? (Remember that world-wide estimates put the costs of cybercrime at over $65billion and the average costs of a breach in Australia is estimated to be well-over $1m.)

In this round-table discussion, we will focus on the myriad ways in which you can help to bring the need for substantial investment in cyber security cultural transformation to the top of the agenda in your organisation. Identify whether your culture is reactive (level 1), compliant (level 2), in a state of continuous improvement (level 3) or high-performing (level 4) in relation to cyber security and how to improve.

As part of the discussion we will also debate and discuss how to choose a governance model with reference to role design, as there is no “one size fits all”. We need better tools and methodologies to improve Identity Access Management. What methodology / tools are used successfully by organisations to map processes and roles at enterprise level? How do we keep the broader team’s access live, fit for purpose and aligned as business users’ change roles and requirements?

How to Automate and Optimise Your Financial System

A recent study from McKinsey identifies that up to 70% of tasks in finance are potentially ‘automate-able’ with next-generation technologies. This will mean that a lot of the tasks we spend our time on today as knowledge workers will be accelerated by automation tools. We’ll have more time to advise the business on strategy and growth plans – and we’ll hopefully spend less time trying to pull relevant reports out of our ERP systems.

In this presentation Nic will show you the Business Technology Platform and the services that SAP have developed to provide customers insight into automating and optimising their financial systems.
