Digitising the ‘Devices’ Supply Chain at Microsoft

Late 2015, the business environment for Microsoft Devices, was one of Shortening Product Lifecycles, Increasing Customer Service Expectations and Pricing and Margin Pressure.

With Manufacturing and Supply Chain operations being a Virtualised and Distributed Supply Network, ageing processes and systems were no longer sufficient, and more importantly, not going to support improving; Speed, Agility and Scale, in a competitive Consumer Electronics marketplace – Digital Transformation of Microsoft’s Devices Supply Chain was needed.

This session will describe; the legacy imperative to change, and what and how the journey to Digitising the Supply Chain, was planned and executed, and the benefits achieved.

Microsoft Devices: Modernising Planning, Sourcing and Procurement, with IBP & Ariba – DMS + SCC

Building on; Digitising the ‘Devices’ Supply Chain at Microsoft, this presentation will drop down a couple of levels to describe the new ‘OS’ for the Supply Chain, embracing a backbone of SAP, with strategic ‘surround’ investments, all running in the Cloud.

Modernising Planning, Sourcing and Procurement, outside of SAP-ECC / SCM, became ‘core’, resulting in the decision to co-innovate Ariba Direct Material Sourcing, with SAP, implement Ariba SCC, and become a ‘first-mover’ to IBP.

We’ll discuss the systems journey and business benefits realised; e.g. partner onboarding cycle time reduction, forecast improvement and reduced order commitment time.

UX & Mobility – Navigating the Choice Overload… Mobility, SAP GUI, Fiori, WebDynPro, and Personas. Where to Begin?

SAP offers such an array of UI solutions that it can be challenging to know where to start. Precision spent a year evaluating UI and mobility solutions, undertook multiple proofs of concepts, and a full pilot in preparation for their S/4HANA implementation.

Mapping different UI and application needs to both field users and operations support staff was key in selecting the right solutions for the job. Numerous mobility options were considered; and from Personas, Fiori and WebDynPro, it is a perplexing choice, to say the least!

Lisa will share the key points from the journey, lessons learnt, and will demo the final product; a combination of Personas/Web GUI and a mobile application for users in the field.

Making the Jump To S/4HANA? One Size Doesn’t Fit All - A Story of Best Practice, Data, and Cultural Change

When Precision Drilling embarked on a greenfield S/4HANA implementation to replace a heavily customised legacy SAP, they adopted the guiding principle of standardising Asset Management master data and business processes across their global operations.

It quickly became apparent that what might suit one division might not suit all. With differing operating models across the organisation, there was a need to scale and adapt to achieve the changes required.

Sharing lessons from their S/4HANA implementation that went live in April 2018, Lisa will examine building scalable processes to adapt to variations in the operational model; how executive support and business engagement is critical to project success; the importance of master data governance to avoid pitfalls in data conversion, and preparing for change, then continuing to change post go-live.

Unlocking Sustainable Business Success: Leadership, Culture and Change Management

Great tools like SAP are meant to help improve the productivity of our teams. However, more than 70% of the time this is not the case. This is because people form the critical backbone of any process and the workplace culture is one of the major reasons sustainable success is not achieved according to research. People, their skills and work culture play a central role in order to be successful. As Peter Drucker once stated – “Culture Eats Your Strategy for Lunch”. This cultural challenge needs a counter effort by leadership if our goals must be achieved.

In this keynote, Jonathan will discuss how we can unlock massive gains when we unlock our people potential. The Trio of the Right Culture, Right Technology and Transformational Leadership would be at the centre of this discourse. To buttress these points, he will be sharing case studies where massive savings were recorded using these methods.

Winning With People: Lessons From The Shop Floor

World-class organisations are those that have mastered the art of harnessing the potential of their most important asset, their people. The opposite can be said of organisations that fall below par. Mostly the silent majority which makes up the shop floor dictate the success or failure of the Asset.

This presentation reflects on both aisles utilising case studies of existing entities and drawing learnings that are rooted in timeless principles of visionary leadership. It is a reflection of interaction and research in the last two years. Some of the excerpts in this presentation are unfiltered insights, providing a rare glimpse into the minds of the average Joe on the shop floor.

Collapse Your Procurement and Logistics Supply Chain Cycle Times Through A Reduction Of “Time To Insight & Action” Events

When a product leaves our four walls or the four walls of our supplier, do we know if the shipment is on track or not? How quickly are we made aware of any potential issues with the shipment? If we do not know there is an issue, then how can we address it? If we do not address it in an efficient and transparent way, then our customer’s experience and subsequent satisfaction will be negatively impacted.

In this session, Kevin and Ankit from ERPGenie will detail how to leverage several key technologies and communication standards to dramatically reduce “Time to Insight” (knowing that a problem has occurred) and “Time to Action” (time take to launch corrective action). If we do not address this in an efficient and transparent way, then our customer’s experience and subsequent satisfaction will be negatively impacted. The solution to this problem is to reduce cycle times, therefore reducing Time to Insight and Time to Action, working together and sharing data through Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) communication, and making sure your Supply Chain solution understands the plan of how the Supply Chain is working.

In addition, you will learn how to uncover exceptions by aligning the Right People with the Right Details at the Right Time to allow them to take corrective action - "Time to Action" and "Time to Resolve". Leveraging these techniques has brought several Fortune 500 companies in the US great value and vastly improved customer satisfaction levels.

A Real-Time Agile Consumer Experience Is an Expectation Across Today's Supply Chain - Adopt and Adapt!

In our fast-changing environment and ever-changing world, there is an increasing need for businesses to shift the way in which they view their Supply Chain Management. In this Keynote, Kevin Wilson from ERPGenie will explore emerging technologies in this space, like BlockChain, Virtual Reality, Internet of Things (IoT) sensor integration, drones and robotics.

Despite all these advances, inventory management remains all about the timeliness and accuracy of data with inventory calculations having to crunch more numbers than ever before. Buyers’ expectations of On Time In Full (OTIF) have merged with their own consumer expectations - expecting the same service when they buy goods for their companies as they would if they bought goods for themselves – The Amazon Effect! Competitive pressure is leading us toward Digital Procurement with AI and analytics allowing better-informed buying decisions and driving efficiency through intelligent automation.

This thought-provoking and informative session will also touch on various supply chain needs, the shift from retail to Direct-to-Consumer and supply chain visibility through the Internet of Things, the impact of Big Data and Machine Learning. You’ll learn what to adopt and how to adapt to ensure Supply Chain success as we head into the future.

SCP Workshop: Manage Your End-To-End Supply Chain by Exception, By Leveraging Standard SAP Functionality – SAP Global Track And Trace

This workshop is separately bookable to the conference at a cost of R5 995 (ex. VAT).

Everybody moves product, everybody needs to know where their product is and how it is being treated – welcoming technology like sensors to capture temperature fluctuations or vibrations. We want to know that our product is in good hands, and now BlockChain can ensure that the chain of custody is valid. We want to know that it will be delivered on time, something that SAP Global Track and Trace can enable with ease. And finally, we want to know if there is an issue we need to address or inform our customers of – and now we can get that data instantly through IoT sensors, SAP GTT and Mobile integration.

Some of the topics to be covered are:
• End-to-End Process Visibility
• Automating Supply Chain events:
• Leveraging EDI to consume partner Supply Chain "events"
• IoT sensors: Vibration, temperature, geo-location, etc
• Manage by exception - uncover the individual items that need addressing rather than reviewing all orders
• Direct to consumer is growing - consumers have a higher expectation of service
• Customers are hard to come by and can be easily lost by a poor Supply Chain experience
• Supply Chain analytics provide opportunities to improve buying decisions, detect potential exceptions and find other opportunities
• Machine Learning
• Reporting to authorities - Sharing Supply Chain events outside of your "trusted" partners - using public or permissioned blockchain

x
The Journey to Supply Chain Visibility

x
Disruption Without Disruption

This keynote will provide a thought-provoking insight into where we are as SAP practitioners, and how to navigate the uncertain waters of the future. With so many new technologies such as Predictive Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, LoraWAN, Condition Monitoring, Digital Twins becoming available faster and faster, how do we leverage the opportunities presented to us whilst remaining in control of (and not sabotaging) our business processes. How do we keep perspective on the holistic view of Asset Management without throwing out the baby with the bathwater?

How Would You Set Up A Maintenance Plan for Your Car?

Very few organisations fully understand the functionality of Maintenance Plans and therefore rarely push the limits of this functionality. By changing the mindset of how we set up Maintenance Plans, there often lies a significant opportunity to save money, improve reliability or improve statutory compliance. There are often some changes that can be made for immediate benefit and sometimes all it takes is asking a very simple question - what would you do for your own car?

EAM Workshop: What You Should Know Before Starting a Mobility Project

This workshop is separately bookable to the conference at a cost of R5 995 (ex. VAT).

Mobility – Is it enough to replicate the SAPGUI transactions on a mobile device? Or are there opportunities for improvement available now and how do we make the most of them? This workshop will take you on a practical journey through the technology utilised, onto the landscape and platforms before moving on to how to apply it to your business. We will finish with a discovery process to identify what different stakeholders want out of mobility, and how to get buy-in from those stakeholders.

Augmenting EAM Efficacy & Extending Asset Life Through “End To End” Cutting Edge Condition-Based Solutions

Pragma and Martec designed, implemented and tested an IIoT-based asset condition monitoring system. A cloud-based application, linked to an IIoT gateway via Ethernet, is installed in the system to timeously receive and store data in a database. After experiencing deviations from set points, immediate action can be taken to prevent any catastrophic failures. A trigger initiates an SMS/email notification expressing the alarm condition raised which is linked to the EAM (ie. SAP PM) for notification/work order creation. The notification indicates the perceived failure mode, including the recommended corrective action. The successful implementation brought extended operation life to these critical old assets by health measures into a single interactive real-time operational dashboard and workflow environment, facilitating better efficiency and proactive maintenance.

Implementation of Integrated Digital Platforms in Support Of Predictive Asset Maintenance And Operations

Transnet Port Terminals has embarked on a digital transformation path to modernise its operations in line with global technology trends and to align with the 4th industrial revolution, to become a top-five port terminal company in the next five years. The business is now implementing amongst others, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies in order to maximise the utilisation of its assets; lower costs; maximise profits and achieve optimal maintenance of key port equipment.

We have implemented SAP modules in stages due to their high acquisition and training costs, which has resulted in SAP not being fully utilised. SAP is the main database and due to this staged/partial SAP implementation, there are visible gaps in data capturing and integrity. The presentation will explore our future plans in systems integration and will compare SAP Leonardo, SAP HANA with similar data and systems platforms. This comparison is done on the bases of achieving optimal asset management and maximum production output in terms of import and export volumes.

Previous SAP versions required a high level of training and skill in order to achieve full utilisation. The new SAP version will also be evaluated in terms of training and skill level required to achieve full utilisation and continuity given staff turnover.

Managing Safety Wisely Without a Policeman

This presentation will look at our organisation’s relentless drive to ensure compliance in Risk Management and Safety. The Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 places workplace employee safety as the direct responsibility of the CEO. However, we know that the CEO sits far from what people on the shop floor are doing, making it even more important to establish successful risk & safety systems, processes, control and monitoring tools. We implemented SAP EAM Risk & Safety and in a year’s time, have started to realise cost benefit in terms of safety through the reduction of incidence, change in behaviour and proactive prevention of risk and safety incidences. Between 2017 and 2018, we were able to reduce our incidence rates by 35%. Some other advantages we have seen are a reduction in costs, enhanced capacity for growth, automated and more streamlined processes, all driving better decision making.

Transforming Billing Information into a Powerful Reporting Tool

Not so long ago, we were struggling with keeping quantity and quality in balance. We missed the mark on analysing and reporting information on a monthly basis and often dealt with inconsistent data capturing. By implementing the following IT changes and principals, we managed to make a 360˚ turnaround in the manner which we dealt with utility bills.

• Keep the data capturing and reporting in the same program (in this case SAP)
• Standardisation of principals applicable to data capturing vs payment
• Manual intervention should be kept at a minimum
• No manual calculations all queries/calculations should be pre-programmed in SAP
• Keep the external database tables simple and maintained
• Consistency in capturing for interpretation is critical to ensure that the objectives are met

How Can Demand-Driven Material Requirements Planning Transform My Traditional MRP Business?

What is Demand-Driven Material Requirements (DDMRP)? It is a multi-echelon solution for today’s increasingly complex planning and execution scenarios. It takes the remaining relevant aspects of traditional MRP tactics and combines it with a demand-driven approach of Lean and the Theory of Constraints, as well as introduces new innovations. Traditional MRP tactics and tools tend to create bimodal distribution, where items tend to be overstocked or understocked. DDMRP allows companies to get out of that constant oscillation between too little and too much, and all the penalties and the costs that come with that oscillation. It allows companies to live in the high return on capital employed zone that is critical to sustainable profitable growth.

The Case for Maintenance - Easy Wins Today for Big Wins Tomorrow

It’s exciting and easy to see the promise and potential of new maintenance technology and where maintenance is going in the future. However, some may not have the budget or resources at their disposal or may be unsure of how to make the case for investment into new technology.

So what can be done to prove the value proposition, improve maintenance and help move your organisation to where you want it to be?

In this session, VIZIYA President and CEO John Vujicic will share from his 20 years of experience, using real-world examples, a few of the top actions and strategies maintenance teams can use to make the case for further maintenance and asset management investment.

Spare Parts MRP Managed Perfectly Using Standard SAP Tools

Raw materials and sales always have good resources behind planning and executing MRP. Spare parts are often left to the stores to manage, without any training, methodology or clear direction. By planning, executing and measuring using standard SAP MRP Tools we have been able to get control over large quantities of materials. Your maintenance teams can ensure that spares will be available when and where they are needed, and Standard SAP can do a perfect job to achieve this. In this presentation, Willem will talk about how the City of Cape Town has done this successfully.

How to Squeeze Value From Your Existing System Before Moving to S/4

As organisations plan for the move to S/4 and the Cloud, there is an awareness that storing bad data on the Cloud will come at an unnecessary cost. More concerning is that poor and unmanaged data in the supply chain has a negative impact on service levels and working capital.

This presentation will share practical techniques that result in tangible cost saving through the management of demand and supply imbalances as well as functional process performance through the planning, scheduling, and execution phases of the supply chain.

By applying these very practical techniques, it is possible to achieve a significant reduction in working capital within the software solution that is already in place.
